Ex-Liverpool man urges Harry Kane to copy 'no-brainer' Sadio Mane transfer move

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has urged Harry Kane to follow in the footsteps of Sadio Mane and join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Kane has been rumoured to have been in talks to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane after producing his best form since Antonio Conte took over the reins in North London in late 2021. However, Conte's long-term future at Spurs appears to be in doubt following a number of bizarre outbursts in press conferences last season where the Italian hinted that he might walk away from his role at the club.

And Nicol, who won the European Cup during his playing days at Liverpool between 1981 and 1994, has urged the Tottenham and England captain to move to the reigning Bundesliga champions if Conte does walk away from the managerial role he has at Spurs.

“If Conte decides to leave at the end of the season then if you are Harry Kane it is a no-brainer to go to Bayern Munich," said Nicol while speaking on ESPN's YouTube channel.

“Why not [for Harry Kane]? Guaranteed you win the Bundesliga, win a title.”

It was only last month that one of Liverpool's attacking stars chose to swap the Premier League for Bavaria as Mane joined Bayern Munch in a deal worth £35m, ending his six-year stay at Anfield.

Despite the Reds' success under Klopp, which the Senegal international had been a catalyst for, Mane opted to leave England in a bid to seek pastures new over in German, which should serve as a message to Daniel Levy and Tottenham that even if the club are to achieve success under Conte in the near future, Kane's future could still lie elsewhere.

Additionally, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann recently lost star man Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona after eight years in Munich, and the England captain certainly fits the criteria the club would be looking to replace the Pole with.
