Ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa's 'significant doubts' over taking over at Everton

Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa reportedly has 'significant doubts' about replacing Frank Lampard as Everton manager. That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Bielsa has 'serious reservations' over taking on the role at Goodison Park.

Lampard was relieved of his duties on Monday after Everton suffered a 2-0 defeat against West Ham United over the weekend. The former Chelsea and England midfielder leaves the Toffees in 19th place, and lost nine of his last 12 Premier League matches at the helm.

Bielsa is believed to be Everton's first-choice candidate for the vacancy, although Sean Dyche is the bookmakers' second favourite behind the Argentine.

It remains to be seen whether Everton will try to persuade Bielsa or focus on other targets, as they attempt to steer themselves away from the relegation zone.

Bielsa has been out of work since his sacking from Leeds in February 2022. He famously led the Whites to the Championship title in 2020 - ending their 16-year absence from the top flight.

After securing promotion, Bielsa then guided Leeds to an impressive ninth-place finish upon their return to the Premier League. However, he was sacked after a run of four straight defeats left them sitting two points above the relegation zone.
