Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya was told he may "need a new partner" in defence after helping secure victory over Falkirk.
Alejandro Bedoya, a former Rangers midfielder, made the remark after the South African helped Rangers beat Falkirk 2-1 in the Premiership.
Makhanya, who played with Bedoya at Philadelphia Union, has made a strong start to his Ibrox career. He impressed again on Wednesday night with a calm display at the heart of the defence.
His defensive partner, Emmanuel Fernandez, had a more difficult evening, with his performance criticised by pundits and supporters. Makhanya said on Instagram: “Not a bad evening. We keep going Gers!”
Bedoya replied, “Played well bro! Congrats. Think you need a new partner next to you tho.”

The Rangers defender appeared to take the joke in good spirits, liking the comment and replying with two salute emojis and a love heart.
Bedoya, aged 39, was Makhanya’s Philadelphia Union captain and spent two years at Ibrox between 2011 and 2013. He then moved to French side Nantes before later linking up with Makhanya in MLS.
His comment followed praise for Makhanya’s composed defending and forward runs during the closing stages.
