Back in November of 2022, former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sued Nike, saying the company withheld millions from him. He said he wanted to “hold powerful companies like Nike accountable for honoring their commitments too.”
Shortly after his lawsuit was filed, Nike filed a countersuit.
On Thursday, Beckham Jr. declared victory over the whole situation, but it’s only a partial win as a Multnomah County (Ore.) Circuit Court jury decided neither side was in breach of contract. No one was awarded any damages, so anything OBJ thought he was owed went out the window.
“JUST DO……RIGHT, Nike,” Beckham wrote on Instagram. “I wanna take this moment to thank God first and foremost thank you Heavenly Father. I wanna thank my team for every hour they have spent preparing on this case. I wanna thank the jury for simply doing what’s right in a world full of wrong… my message to whoever needs this is, STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!!”
Even though he wasn’t awarded any funds, he also didn’t have to dole any out for Nike’s countersuit, which is likely why he considers it a win. But still, it seems a hard pill to swallow.
