Politico's Ryan Lizza confirmed that he was no longer engaged to New York Magazine's Olivia Nuzzi right as the latter finds herself in a media frenzy for her relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Lizza, 50, published a statement in Politico PM on Friday afternoon, indicating that he will no longer be involved in any of Politico's coverage regarding RFK Jr.
"Because of my connection to this story through my ex-fiancée, my editors and I have agreed that I won't be involved in any coverage of Kennedy in Playbook or elsewhere at POLITICO." wrote Lizza.
Nuzzi, who had been engaged to Lizza since Sept. 2022, was placed on leave from New York Magazine after engaging in a personal relationship with the former presidential candidate.
"She had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine's standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures," New York magazine wrote in a statement published Thursday.
"Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign." The statement continues.
In her own statement released on Thursday, Nuzzi admitted that "the nature of some communications between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal." She did not name Kennedy.
She continues to maintain that her relationship with RFK Jr. never turned physical.
