Ex-Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson shares sadness over family bereavement after sweet adorable birthday tribute

Ex-Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson has shared an adorable birthday message to her dog after sad news elsewhere in her family this week.

Gemma, who now presents of Hits Radio, posted a picture on Instagram of her dogs Ollie and Norman.

The picture showed the dogs wearing party hats with cakes and candles in front of them on the sofa.

Gemma captioned the photo: "11 years of loyalty, love, chewed socks and fox poo rolls but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

"Beautiful Ollie, Happy Birthday."

There was also a card visible addressed to the "best dog ever", the Manchester Evening News reports.

Several celebrities immediately commented to wish Ollie a happy birthday too.

Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer wrote: "Cuties!!! Happy birrfffdddaaayyyy."

Strictly competitor Katie McGlynn also commented with several emojis.

Anthony Quinlan, who played Pete in Emmerdale, commented: "Aww Happy Birthday Ollie! Lots of woof"

However, the adorable post comes after a loss in the family Gemma shared earlier in the week.

Gemma posted on Instagram to share that her sister's dog, Jackson, had died.

Her sister Nina had sent over a dog bed and treats that Gemma said she would be taking to an animal sanctuary to give them to dogs in need.

Gemma and fiancée Gorka Marquez's daughter Mia went to stay at Nina's house for a bit after Jackson's death to 'cheer them up' a bit.

Gemma said Mia had been told Jackson had gone to live on the moon with David, Gemma's father who died when she was 17.

The radio presenter posted a picture of her and Jackson together, writing: ""He was a great dog. A gentle giant.

"Sending love to anyone who's lost a pet..."
