Ex-Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson forced to rip out brand new kitchen after being 'ripped off' by builders

Radio presenter Gemma Atkinson has defended her decision to have a new kitchen fitted after only having had the existing one for two years.

The mum-of-one revealed that she had been "ripped off" by builders previously as she opened up about the "poor quality kitchen" and other house struggles she and her fiancé and Strictly legend, Gorka Marquez, have had since buying their home.

The couple, who met on BBC dance show Strictly Come Dancing and now have a three-year-old daughter, Mia, moved in to their first home together in September 2020.

The former Emmerdale star, who played Carly Hope, took to her Instagram stories to explain. She said: "Our entire kitchen is been ripped out tomorrow, so we're having to pack everything up. It's surprising, like, bear in mind three of us live in this house why do we need so many cups, but I can't throw them away," the actress and presenter said as she laughed about their ever growing mug collection.

Gemma went on to explain the difficulty the family has had with their new build home after a fan messaged the star saying "Isn't it a new kitchen?"

The star wrote in a long caption: "It's two years old but tbh we've had nothing but issues with it. The quality wasn't what we paid for when buying the house… Genuinely so fed up with having to pay for people to come out and fix stuff, and us being told by them 'it's because it's all low quality stuff'".

Lesson learnt on our part if we ever move again, for sure!" Gemma finished by writing: "We both just felt let down with it all hence the "new start" with workmen we trust [thumbs up emoji]".

The family should now have a little more time together after Strictly Come Dancing 2022 came to and end before Christmas. Much like last year Gorka will not be taking part in the live tours, Gemma recently took to Instagram to jump to her partners defence after rumours circulated that he was quitting the show.

The 38-year-old penned: "Obvs this isn't true at all! Same as it wasn't true about Gio last year. Merry Christmas!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
