Former Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has announced that she is expecting her first child with boyfriend Ryan Ledson after the pair suffered a 'secret' miscarriage.
The actress, 26, who played the iconic role of Bethany Platt on the cobbles, has said that she's 'scared but excited' to be welcoming a baby following her recent heartache after losing her first pregnancy back in March.
“It was a traumatising, horrendous time,” she told OK Magazine. “We went for a scan and they couldn’t see anything, so then we went to the hospital and they thought they could see something, so it was very up and down.
"I had pregnancy symptoms and I was feeling really unwell and when they were doing all these scans my symptoms were getting worse and worse and there were no signs I had had a miscarriage, so that made it more of a shock.
"We just assumed everything was going to be fine. Then after a week when they’d done the blood tests and other tests I went back and they said that I had miscarried. It was a really strange feeling.
"Even though so many people go through it, you never expect it will happen to you."
Following the traumatic loss of her first baby, Lucy is already five months pregnant with her baby, and she's over the moon about becoming a young mum.
"We’re very fortunate that it happened again for us,” Lucy. explained. “We weren’t putting pressure on it and I was trying not to put pressure on myself and then it just ended up happening that way for us.
"It was obviously just meant to happen.”
Lucy and Ryan's romance may only be a new one, but the pair have gone from strength-to-strength after meeting through mutual friend and Coronation Street star, Helen Flanagan.
A source told The Sun in July: "It's early days but they're really loved up and don't care who knows it.
"They met through Helen Flanagan's partner Scott Sinclair, who knows Ryan."
Lucy's boyfriend Ryan is a promising midfielder for Preston North End who has been named Players and Supporters Player of the Year.
Ryan, from Liverpool, joined the Championship club in May 2018 for an undisclosed fee.
He began his career at Everton, joining the club’s academy at the age of five, however failed to break into the first team and joined Cambridge United on loan for the 2015/16 season.
Lucy and Ryan's joyous baby news comes after the former Coronation street star's split from her ex-boyfriend, Tom Leech, in 2020.
The pair had dated for over three years before eventually calling it quits during the pandemic.
The same year, Lucy decided to call it a day on Corrie after first joining the ITV soap in May 2015.
The actress was cast as the re-introduced character as Sarah Platt's daughter who returned from Milan. Bethany's storylines have included taking diet pills, being groomed by evil Nathan Curtis before falling for grieving widow Daniel Osbourne.
Last year, Lucy refused to rule out a return to the cobbles. The soap star opened up in an Instagram live with her stylist and friend Ryan Kay and was asked about a potential return to Coronation Street.
She said: "I would. But there are so many things I want to do first. When you're in Corrie you're quite tied down to the schedule.
"I feel I'm going to take this time focus on myself, doing s*** I want to do.”
