Ex-Celtic boss Lennon nears management return as he's named on Olympiakos shortlist

Neil Lennon is reportedly nearing a return to management having been named on a three-man shortlist for a European job.

The former Celtic boss is reportedly a serious contender to take over at Greek giants Olympiakos.

The Scottish Sun claims Lennon is being considered by club chiefs for his return to the dugout after being sacked by Omonia Nicosia.

It's thought talks with the Greek side have been ongoing for a number of weeks.

And Lennon is reportedly hopeful of hearing if he will be called for an interview for the position by the end of the week.

Olympiakos are currently third in the Greek top flight and looking for a new manager after Míchel left the club last month.

He said: “I have informed the club’s management of my decision to resign.

"I think this is the best time for the team.

"I thank the whole Club for the collaboration –all these intense months– I leave in friendship and wish the team to achieve all their goals.”

Lennon has been out of management since October when he was dismissed by Cypriot side Omonia.

The former Hibs and Bolton manager had impressed at the club in his first stint abroad but was removed from his position after a torrid run in the league.

Lennon had come close to shock results against Manchester United as Omonia boss in the Europa League group stage having toppled Gent 4-0 in qualifying.
