Former Bristol City defender Hordur Magnusson could be on his way back to the Championship with Sheffield United as he plots his next move, according to reports.
The 29-year-old will leave CSKA Moscow at the end of next month when his contract expires after spending the last four years with the Russian side following his departure from the Robins.
The Sheffield Star writes how Magnusson could be offered to the Blades with manager Paul Heckingbottom eager to sign a left-sided centre-back. Filip Uremovic was released at the end of the season while Ben Davies has returned to Liverpool following the end of his loan spell.
The article adds a number of English clubs are also thought to be interested in Magnusson although his relatively high wages could prove to be a stumbling block for many.
Magnusson moved to CSKA Moscow following the conclusion of the 2017/18 season with manager Lee Johnson at the time admitting they decided to cash in after receiving "a very good offer."
He moved to the VEB Arena for 2.5million Euros, playing 93 times and winning the Russian Super Cup in 2018. CSKA Moscow finished fifth in the Russian top flight this season with Magnusson featuring just four times in the league.
He proved a popular figure during his time at Ashton Gate and played a key part during City's run to the semi finals of the EFL Cup including playing in the victory over Manchester United which he described as the best moment in a Robins shirt.
Magnusson built a great rapport with the City faithful despite just two seasons in BS3 and praised the "unbelievable City fans" upon his departure further declaring he would keep track of their progress.
City addressed their problem at the back last week following the surprise arrival of Kal Naismith from Luton. Joining on a free transfer, his signing went completely under the radar which led to the Hatters releasing a statement sharing their "surprise" at the deal.
It read: "We have learnt that Kal Naismith has agreed to join Bristol City when his Luton Town contract comes to an end next month.
"We were surprised to discover from our fellow Championship club’s announcement, without advance warning as is the usual etiquette, that the 30-year-old has rejected the opportunity of a new contract at Kenilworth Road.
"The Scot joined the Hatters as a free agent after departing Wigan Athletic in January 2021, and leaves with a total of three goals from 68 appearances, including 45 last season while winning two player of the year awards as Town reached the play-offs.
"We thank Kal for his service to the club and wish him well for the future."
