Ex-Bolton, Hull City, Peterborough & Charlton attacker's contract cancelled at non-league club

Former Bolton Wanderers loanee Marcus Maddison has had his contract at non-league Darlington cancelled by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old originally joined Wanderers in January 2021 when the club was in League Two, on loan from Charlton Athletic. He went on to play 10 times for the club, before his loan spell was ended early after admitting he had fallen out of love with the game and took time out from it for mental health reasons.

He later moved to non-league Spalding United and joined Darlington earlier this summer. He turned out five times for the Quakers after joining.

But he is now a free agent once more following his time at the Quakers coming to an end. A short statement on the club's website confirmed the departure.

It read: "Darlington FC would like to announce that we have agreed to cancel the contract of Marcus Maddison by mutual consent.

"We would like to wish Marcus all the best for the future."

Maddison came through the youth team ranks at Newcastle United but did not play for the Magpies. His career has taken him to Blyth Spartans, St Johnstone, Gateshead, Peterborough United and Hull City too.
