A brute who snatched his former girlfriend in broad daylight before she fell from the speeding van he had bundled her in has had his prison sentence doubled.
Chay Bowskill, who kidnapped Angel Lynn and tossed her into the vehicle before she was found seriously injured, has had his seven-and-a-half year jail term increased to 16 years and three months by Court of Appeal judges.
Angel Lynn suffered life-changing injuries after she was grabbed by her ex and his associate Rocco Sansome, both 20, back in 2020.
As a result of exiting the transit van as it sped along the road at 60mph, the 19-year-old has been left with injuries which mean she can no longer walk, talk or feed herself. She also requires 24-hour care.
In February, he was Bowskill was handed seven-and-a-half years and Sansome was given 21 months detention.
But the sentence appeared to be “unduly lenient”, the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC said.
Now, Court of Appeal judges have decided to double Bowskill’s sentence.
It will now be increased to 16 years, it was today confirmed, report Mirror Online.
Bowskill, of Empingham Drive, Syston was cleared of “unintentionally causing her grievous bodily harm” because it could not be proven how she left the vehicle.
Speaking outside the Royal Courts of Justice following the ruling, the young woman’s aunt Jackie Chamberlain said the family was “relieved” by the sentence increase.
Speaking on behalf of Ms Lynn’s family, she said: “We were told at the time not to appeal, but we felt so strongly that we should have appealed, and we did and we got what we wanted today and Chay’s sentence has been increased.”
Ms Chamberlain thanked the public and Women’s Aid for their support in the appeal.
She continued: “We’re very grateful to the British public who have supported us as a family all the way along, we can put this behind us now, we can move on, we can get Angel home, we can get her extension built so we just want to thank the British public, the judges and the press who have carried our story for the last few months.
“We’re relieved because we don’t want him to walk away from prison, we want him to get what he deserves and we have been given life.”
Asked about the sentence increase, she continued: “We’ll take that because it’s more than we got in the first place and we were told not to appeal.”
Sentencing the thug at the time, Judge Timothy Spencer QC told Bowskill: “She was a beautiful young woman who should have been enjoying the carefree years of her late-teens into early adulthood.
“You treated her in a vile way. She was belittled by you to a point where she must have felt worthless on a regular basis.
“You bombarded her with repulsive and degrading messages. You controlled her freedom of movement by a variety of means.
“She wasn’t allowed any sort of life apart from you. I’m satisfied you meted out violence to her, causing bruising, on at least two occasions.”
