Four people have been injured following a suspected gas explosion in Worcestershire.
Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the blast on the residential street in Hemmingway, Evesham shortly after 5pm on Wednesday.
Horrific pictures from the scene show the remnants of a home as neighbours described the ‘loud explosion’ that led to the neighbourhood being evacuated.
A neighbouring bat sanctuary tweeted: “It was loud, very loud indeed. But the response from the emergency services was incredibly swift indeed. Evesham Bat Care is fine just shook up this could happen in #Evesham & we hope those injured make a full recovery. The town will pull together.”
A woman, who didn’t wish to be named, told the Evesham Journal: “It’s horrific.
“There was a massive bang and the whole house shook, I thought my roof had come off or something.
“We opened the blinds and there was all this debris coming towards us.”
A West Mercia spokesman confirmed four people were injured in the blast.
He said: “One man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and two other adults are being taken to Hereford County Hospital. A fourth person is being treated by paramedics at this time.
“Ten neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution.
“A road closure and police cordon remain in place whilst we respond to the incident.
“We’re asking you to stay away from the area at this time, thank you for your understanding.”
