The latest instalment in the acclaimed Legend of Zelda series was released on Friday, and it's set to be one of the biggest video games of the year.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom is the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild, which was released in 2017. As well as achieving the largest first week sales out of any previous Zelda title, the Nintendo Switch game is at the top of the UK video game box office charts, ahead of Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
With so much hype around the release, there are a lot of questions surrounding the latest tale in Link’s story. Here is everything you need to know about Tears of the Kingdom.

What is the plot of Tears of the Kingdom?
Tears of the Kingdom takes place some time after Breath of the Wild. It follows Link and Zelda exploring a secret passage beneath Hyrule Castle.
The protagonists soon discover that perennial villain Ganondorf is aiming to destroy Hyrule. Link and Zelda must fight against him to save Hyrule and its many Sky Islands.
What are the new gameplay features?
There are a wealth of new abilities for this game. The Recall enables Link to rewind an object in motion and return it back with the same force.
Fuse allows you to combine weapons and other items together. Meanwhile, Ascend gives Link the ability to rise through the air and pass through platforms, while Ultrahand and Autobuild combine to allow you to build a wide range of objects and structures.
Is there a new map?
Hyrule has been given a new lease of life. As well as familiar features from previous titles, gamers can now explore its Sky Islands and Winding Caverns. There are also Ancient Shrines and new dungeons to explore too.
Are there any special editions?
There is a collector’s edition for Tears of the Kingdom available on Amazon but it is selling fast. It comes in a specially designed box.
As well as a physical copy of the game, it includes a steelbook, several pin badges, a poster and an artbook featuring designs of the game. Furthermore, there is a limited edition Switch controller tied with the game. It comes in black with gold patterns and has motion sensors built-in.
What have the reviews been like?
The reviews for Tears of Kingdom have been generally very positive. Metacritic, which aggregates thousands of ratings for video game releases, gave it a 96/100 based on critics reviews and 8.6/10 from gamers.
However, there have been some criticisms, with Polygon arguing it has unpredictable loading times and occasional "abysmal" frame rates.
