French actress and model Camille Razat gained international recognition when she landed her English-speaking debut as the charming Camille in the Darren Star Netflix show Emily in Paris. The first season was viewed by some 58 million households worldwide in the month after its debut, and each season since then has had tens of millions of viewers all over the world.
With season four now available to stream, it’s clear that Razat and her character Camille have become icons of the hit show, known for her elegant looks, alluring personality and chic Parisian flair.
Yet despite her rise to fame, little is known about Camille Razat’s personal life. So, here’s what you need to know about the actress, including her relationship off-screen.
How did Camille Razat land her role on Emily In Paris?
Camille Razat auditioned for the role of ‘Camille’ in Emily in Paris, which she has said was “quite a long process”.
“I had to do five auditions in total,” the actress said in an interview with Vogue. This included a mix of taped and in-person auditions, with the final one on Zoom with Darren Star.
“He gave me some directions, and we worked together for an hour. It was so nice. A few weeks later, I received a call from the agent announcing that I’d gotten the part! I was elated to be acting in an English-speaking role for the first time. For some odd reason, I always knew I would,” she said.
But this wasn’t all just luck – Razat already had experience in the industry. She actually began her career as a teenage model before studying acting at the prestigious Cours Florent Drama School in Paris. Notable alumni there include Diane Kruger, Audrey Tautou and Eva Green. And just as they found success, so did Camille Razat, who went on to appear in a number of French TV shows and films including The Disappearance, (Girl)friend and The Accusation.
However, her career suddenly skyrocketed when she landed her role in Emily in Paris. As she told Glamour, “It’s changed everything for me, honestly.”
Is Camille Razat In A Relationship?
Camille Razat is very much in love. While the exact origins of their relationship are unknown, she first went Instagram official with her photographer boyfriend Etienne Baret in 2017.
In December 2021, the pair got engaged with Razat sharing the sweet surprise in a slow-motion video.
“Blessed @etiennebaret Thank you to my amazing friend(s) I love you!” she wrote in the caption. While the video has since been removed, she often tags him on her Instagram and they are both involved in her production company, TAZAR.
Who is Etienne Baret?
Baret is a photographer and has worked with Camille on campaigns for luxury Italian jeweller Bulgari, French accessories brand Roger Vivier and legendary French fashion houses Celine and Chanel. In fact, among the most public displays of their relationship is a Roger Vivier campaign for the Maison’s Autumn/winter 2021 collection.
As in the video, where Baret is filmed taking images of Razat, Camille appears to be the subject of the majority of the photographer’s work. The couple have also collaborated via Camille Razat’s production company, TAZAR, with Baret directing a music video for GENNRE, a self-described “musical and visual project” that Baret also co-founded.
When are they tying the knot?
Little is known about the notoriously private couple’s impending nuptials but one thing you can be sure of is that her on-screen boyfriend Lucas Bravo (Gabriel) will be on the guest list.
In an interview with ELLE Australia, Razat opened up about her long term friendship with the French actor, expanding that kissing him “was weird” because “he’s like my brother in real life.”
While there’s no wedding date yet, it seems Camille Razat and Etienne Baret are very much in love. The couple live in a Parisienne loft, which they have shared for almost two years now.
In an interview for AD (Architectural Digest) Middle East, Razat says: “When I first walked into this courtyard, I fell in love with it immediately.”
The photos of the space (some of which feature or were taken by Etienne Baret) reveal an industrial-chic vibe and a lot of history, with Razat saying she particularly loves “an original wall of the building, which used to be a spinning mill and later a brewery for beer production, dating back to the 19th century.”
So, it’s clear the two are living their own version of a creative, Parisienne dream.
