Reports of a new sub-variant spreading throughout the UK have been detected with early data showing it could be more transmissible than its parent strain.
Scientists are now closely monitoring the omicron sub-variant - known as BA.2 - which has become known as the 'stealth variant' due to it being harder to detect on PCR tests and therefore taking longer to identify.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) previously declared it a "variant under investigation" with experts closely monitoring its growth across countries.
