Fans were promised that the shows would have "all the bells and whistles", and it looks as though the star didn't disappoint as the stage was "like nothing anyone has ever seen before".
Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions told the Irish Mirror : "This is the first year of his three-year world tour. It's great that we're getting the first date.
"It's like nothing I've ever seen, and I've seen everything. It's in the round, and it's all bells and whistles. It's going to be so different from anything he's ever done before."
However, after the concert began, people took to Twitter, and they all had the same thing to say as the concert could be heard booming throughout the city.
One person wrote: "How can I hear #EdSheeran Sheeran singing badHabits. I'm in Dublin 8 and he's in Croke Park. Thought I heard Shape of you before that but clear as a bell outside now. Chilly but starry night".
Another said: "About 2km from Croke Park but #EdSheeran is so loud Shazam can still pick it up - amazing!! "
While a third commented: "3.5km from Croke Park to my house, and I can hear the #edsheeran concert through closed windows. I can even hear the crowd screaming. Needless to say, wish I was there…"
"So lovely to hear music and a big crowd cheering - even at a distance!" a fourth said.
Others said the concert was the loudest they had even heard.
They said: "Can all of Dublin hear that #EdSheeran gig?
"I must be 10km away from Croke Park and the noise is beating my windows in.
"Loudest gig ever."
