People who have respiratory conditions that affect their daily life could be eligible to receive more than £100 from the Government every week. This includes asthma - a disease that, according to the British Lung Foundation, eight million people in the UK have been diagnosed with.
There were nearly 2.9 million people across the UK claiming support through Personal Independence Payments (PIP) at the end of January this year, figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show. Of those claimants, just over one in three (35%) were receiving the highest level of award.
An increase has also been recorded in the number of people now receiving support for 24 types of respiratory conditions including asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep apnoea, chronic bronchitis, emphysema and pneumonia, the Manchester Evening News reports. In January the number of claimants for these types of conditions across the UK rose to 128,316, up from 1,661 at the end of October (126,655).
