'Everybody fights for each other', Dan Burn on Newcastle United's mentality under Eddie Howe

Dan Burn feels that Newcastle United's resilence under Eddie Howe is shining through game by game in the Premier League.

The Magpies picked up a point at Burn's old club Brighton & Hove Albion with the defender switched to left-back on his return. Yet the rejig did not damage Newcastle's chances of getting a positive result.

Burn told Chronicle Live: "I thought the draw was a good result, especially with the heat and the way we want to play in terms of intensity. I thought we were good first half and second half we had to defend a little bit more.

"That just shows how much we're improving and everybody is fighting for each other. We had a few goalline clearances and Popey made a few good saves. To come here and get a clean sheet is important."

The Magpies were indebted to a superb performance from Nick Pope who made save after save at the Amex Stadium. Burn agreed that he was the star man.

Burn added: "Popey was brilliant he's obviously an England international but because of the size of him he pulls off saves that other keepers wouldn't and makes it look easy. I was really happy for him. Four points from six and two clean sheets is good.

"I think it's a big mentality change around the club, if you can't win don't get beat. This keeps the momentum going and we have just carried on from the end of last season really. "

For Burn, it was his first game back at Brighton since signing for £13million last January. He reflected: "It was nice coming back to Brighton. It was nice to get a good reception. I left so quickly I didn't get the chance to say goodbye so it was good."
