Friends, I’m not afraid to admit that I love a YA book-to-screen adaptation. From The Summer I Turned Pretty to Off Campus, you best believe I have binge-watched them all, some more than once. And you know what I devoured over the weekend and loved every minute of? Every Year After.
Based on the bestselling book Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, the Prime Video series is a story about first loves, loss, friendship, yearning, and teen drama (like all good YA series). The book spent a massive 16 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers List, so you already knew the adaptation was going to be good.
As someone who has finished season one and is already considering an immediate rewatch, I’m pleased to inform you that over the weekend, it was officially announced that we are definitely getting a season two.
Here’s everything you need to know about Every Year After.
When will Every Year After be released in Australia?
Luckily for you, if you haven’t watched it already, all eight episodes of Every Year After are available to binge right now on Prime Video.
What is the plot of Every Year After?
Set in the picturesque lake town of Barry’s Bay, the series follows childhood friends Persephone ‘Percy’ Fraser (Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (Matt Cornett) as they navigate a classic friends-to-lovers and back-again storyline. It jumps between flashbacks where we see their magical childhood summers unfold, and the present day, where a decade has passed since a ~mysterious~ and painful betrayal tore them apart.
Percy (now an obituary writer) returns to Barry’s Bay for the funeral of the boys’ mother, Sue. Reunited under tragic circumstances, Percy and Sam have to confront their history, their unresolved feelings, and their past mistakes.
Who is in the cast of Every Year After?
The leads of Every Year After are Sadie Soverall as Percy, Matt Cornett as Sam and Michael Bradway as Charlie. Other cast members include Elisha Cuthbert (Sue), Aurora Perrineau (Chantal), Abigail Cowen (Delilah) and Joseph Chiu (Jordie).
Will there be an Every Year After Season 2?
As I mentioned before, showrunner Amy B. Harris confirmed it will return for season two. “I might have just a little bit more tea for everybody,” Harris said while on stage at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest on June 27. “Do you want the tea? We’re going back to Barry’s Bay for season two!”
While Every Year After’s first season follows Percy and Sam’s love story, the second season will pivot to adapt Fortune’s sequel novel, One Golden Summer. This means the spotlight turns heavily to Charlie, the fallout of that chaotic cliffhanger, and his introduction to a new love interest, Alice Everly.
No word on who they’re planning to cast as Alice yet, but no doubt BookTok already has its predictions.
