Ava White's murderer was today locked up for a minimum of 13 years.
The 12-year-old victim died after being stabbed in the neck in November last year, having gone into the city centre to watch the Christmas lights switch-on. Members of the Year 8 Notre Dame Catholic College pupil's family today wept in the public gallery at Liverpool Crown Court as her 15-year-old killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was handed a life imprisonment.
Sentencing, Justice Amanda Yip described how the teen's actions had "shocked the city" and left a "huge hole" in the lives of Ava's family. The top judge also described the victim as "fearless, kind-hearted and full of character."
