The shopping instruction that defined this recall has quietly expired. Every carton covered by the Midwest Poultry Services egg recall carried a sell-by or best-by date no later than August 17, and that date has now passed, which means the codes households were told to check are no longer on store shelves.
The investigation has not moved with it. The FDA's outbreak investigation page still lists the status as ongoing, and its posted case data has not been updated since late July. The agency has also said something it has not walked back: the recalled eggs are a likely source of illnesses, but the producer does not account for all of them.
