A whopping grand total of 71 schools across the North East have been branded 'inadequate' or 'requiring improvement by the Office for Standards in Education - commonly known as Ofsted.
The non-ministerial department is responsible for carrying out inspections across England's nurseries, schools and colleges and awarding providers with a fitting mark determined by the quality of education that students are receiving.
Ofsted currently uses a four point scale to determine a school's reputation - from 'outstanding' to 'inadequate' - but it's worth noting that certain establishments may find themselves in the 'special measures' category should improvements be rapidly necessary.

In a round of its most recent inspections, Ofsted rated a grant total of 71 education providers (including schools, colleges and nurseries) to be 'requiring improvement' or 'inadequate' - with 61 in the former category and ten landing in the latter.
We've used Ofsted's publicly available markings to compile a list of which schools underperformed in terms of quality education, according to the ever-strict Government department.
It's worth noting that a number of establishments haven't been inspected in some time, with Ofsted frequently updating their records after fresh inspections are carried out. But all of the following ratings were correct at the time of publication.
