While Manchester has its curry mile, many Northerners will say that there's no place like Ocean Road for Asian cuisine. The South Shields strip has become synonymous with curries from faraway foreign lands, with more and more vendors popping up each and every year through the successes of their peers.
And while there are an abundance of award-winning fresh fish and chip shops across the seaside town itself, the Great British cuisine is far overshadowed by the stellar Sri Lankans, tasty Tikka Masalas and meaty Madrases up for grabs. Chances are, when you think about a cracking curry in the North East, you'll more than likely be thinking of a venue on this very central street.
But just how clean are the curryhouses and other establishments on Ocean Road? Here, Chronicle Live explains.

In the ratings, five is top of the scale, where standards are very good and zero is at the bottom, where urgent improvement is necessary. Each business is given a rating after an inspection by the Food Standards Agency with requirements, if necessary, on how to improve hygiene.
