Although people usually associate the Christmas season with roast turkeys, gift giving and copious amounts of booze - others cherish the festive period for its catchy jingles past and present.
The musical landscape is ever-evolving - from heartfelt love songs in the swinging 60s, to an electronic extravaganza in the 80s, to a complete and utter pop takeover spanning the last 30 years or so.

Bagging a Christmas number one is a widespread goal for musicians across the board. Not only is it a chance to make a tonne of money, with that hit forever being repeated around December each and every year, but it's also an opportunity to etch your way into the history books with pride and prestige.
So when you look through all of the Christmas number one singles throughout history, it comes as no surprise that you have songs that aren't necessarily associated with the 'season to be jolly'. And while you may think that it's just the odd one or two hits like Rage Against The Machine's Killing in the Name, and Ed Sheeran's Perfect, you would be sincerely mistaken.
Here, ChronicleLive takes a look at every UK Christmas number one from each of the last 50 years.
