From a financial perspective, there hasn’t been a bigger game in Everton’s 144 years than their clash with Burnley on Wednesday.
Win it, and they will earn themselves three much-needed points in their battle against relegation from the Premier League and take an equally important confidence boost as well. Lose it, though, and the tailspin they are already in will only get more ferocious, with Everton spiralling towards what would be the biggest catastrophe in their history.
What the club hasn’t had for a few years now is a coherent plan and when you have no coherent plan, you drift, when you drift, you get relegated. And if that were to happen it would be the worst relegation of any top-flight club since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.
