This weekend’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool is uncertain to go ahead as Storm Darragh prepares to lash the region with gale-force winds and heavy rain.
Scheduled for a 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday at Goodison Park, the match is set against the backdrop of an amber weather warning issued by the Met Office, warning of “danger to life” conditions.
Amber Alert and Dangerous Conditions
The Met Office predicts wind gusts of up to 70mph across Merseyside from early Saturday morning until Sunday morning.
The storm has already disrupted other sporting events across the UK, with the Welsh FA postponing all matches this weekend and Plymouth Argyle’s clash with Oxford United cancelled due to the extreme conditions.
With the amber warning in place, concerns about fan safety and transportation logistics have taken centre stage. Everton and Liverpool released a joint statement urging attendees to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
“Supporters attending Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park are advised to allow extra time for travel and remain alert to Met Office weather warnings,” the statement read.
“Given the weather warning, fans are advised to allow extra time for their journey and take extra care.”

Liverpool vs Everton Match Status Uncertain
While no official announcement has been made regarding the potential postponement of the derby, the severe weather conditions raise questions about whether the match will go ahead as planned.
The Premier League and both clubs are closely monitoring the situation, with the safety of players, staff, and fans being the top priority.
The derby will mark the final meeting between the two clubs at Goodison Park before Everton moves to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Public transport and road networks in the area may also be disrupted by the storm.
Fans are advised to stay updated on weather and travel advisories in their area to avoid any unforeseen delays or dangers.
