Everton’s chances of staying in the Premier League this season have been calculated by a leading sports supercomputer. With 11 matches still left to play, the Blues lie just one place above the relegation zone and face a nervous couple of months as they look to avoid dropping out of the top flight for the first time in 71 years.
Everton’s tally of 25 points from 27 games is the club's lowest ever at this stage of a Premier League season and they have never completed a campaign averaging less than a point per game (based on adjusted equivalent tallies prior to three points for a win being introduced in 1981). Frank Lampard’s side face a huge week in their fight for survival when they resume action after the current international break.
First they go to David Moyes’ West Ham United – the club where Blues boss Lampard started his career and where his father Frank senior is a legend – on Sunday. They then travel to fellow strugglers Burnley on Wednesday before hosting Manchester United on Saturday, April 9. Everton’s last Premier League fixture was a dramatic 1-0 victory at home to Newcastle United on March 17 when Alex Iwobi’s struck their winner nine minutes into stoppage time and the team will be desperate to get more points on the board as quickly as possible in an attempt to create more daylight between themselves and the bottom three.
