Everton set to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea

Everton are set to sign Tyrique George after agreeing a fee with Chelsea for the England Under-21 winger.

The Merseyside club will pay an initial £18m, which could rise to £24m including add-ons, after he impressed David Moyes during a spell on loan at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

That loan deal, in the second half of last season, contained an option to purchase George for £25m, which Everton did not take up, but entered into negotiations to sign him for a lower up-front fee.

George, who was clear he wanted to join Everton, will become their second summer signing after the arrival of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Everton.

The 20-year-old scored six goals in all competitions for Chelsea but only started one Premier League game as they kept signing wingers.

He was mainly used as a substitute by Moyes last season, making 10 of his 11 appearances off the bench, but convinced Everton to buy him.

George will be another academy product sold by Chelsea and a second significant summer sale for them, following Marc Cucurella’s £47.5m transfer to Real Madrid.
