Everton set to confirm Frank Lampard as transfer interest in midfielder steps up

Frank Lampard is expected to be confirmed as Everton's new manager tomorrow - as the Blues revive their interest in Donny van de Beek.

The Blues offered the job to Lampard after spending Friday conducting interviews with the three remaining candidates to replace the sacked Rafa Benitez.

Lampard and Everton were working on the details of his contract and the make-up of his backroom staff today before a breakthrough was made in the afternoon.

And it means the 43-year-old could now be officially confirmed as the club's new boss at some point on Sunday.

Part of the discussions with Lampard in recent days have included transfer targets, with Everton in need of reinforcements before the window shuts on Monday night.

And Everton have picked up their interest in Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch international was a player former director of football Marcel Brands enquired about late in the summer and he was keen for Everton to pursue a deal this month too, before he left the club in December.

Benitez, however, had doubts about bringing the 24-year-old in.

But the Spaniard's sacking has seen Van de Beek return as a target and Everton will battle it out with Crystal Palace for his services.

Everton are set on adding at least one midfielder to the squad before the 11pm cut off on Monday.
