Everton's Ellis Simms makes Hearts vow after impressive start to loan move

Ellis Simms has spoken of his pride after scoring his first goal for Heart of Midlothian and hopes there are many more to come.

Simms, who joined the Scottish club on Wednesday, scored on his first start for Hearts as Motherwell were beaten 2-0 at Tynecastle.

The online Everton forward netted from close range in the 58th minute to double his side’s lead after Andy Halliday had scored Hearts’ opener in the 37th minute

The win moves Robbie Neilson's third-placed side 10 points clear of their nearest rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

And taking to Twitter after the game, Simms wrote: “Good 2-0 win, also great feeling scoring my first goal in front of the home support at Tynecastle, hopefully many more to come.”

While Hearts boss Neilson admitted after the game that his side still needed to learn how to play to get the best out of the forward.

He said: “I’m sure Ellis will be delighted with the range of his goal! It’s nice to get a tap-in on your first home start.

“I think, as a team, we still need to figure out what he’s good at and what suits him. He makes some great runs and we’re not quite finding him yet.”

Simms has found himself around the Blues first team on multiple occasions this season after impressing on loan at Blackpool last season.

Simms spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan with the Seasiders, where he scored 10 goals in 24 appearances to help Neil Critchley's side to promotion to the Championship from League One.

The 21-year-old, who signed a new deal with the club back in November, was then handed his Premier League debut by Rafa Benitez in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month.

The forward, who joined the Blues aged 16 having previously spent time at Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, had previously impressed at under-18 and under-23 level for the Blues.
