Everton round-up: Anthony Gordon move to Chelsea 'unlikely' as Toffees eye Man Utd flop

Everton are set for a busy few days as the clock ticks down on the transfer window but will they manage to get in any more new faces or just offload some unwanted deadwood?

They are desperate to keep star youngster Anthony Gordon despite interest from Chelsea in the attacking midfielder but now the Londoners may have to give up on him. Boss Frank Lampard has got a striker in Brighton's Neal Maupay but will he look to add another before the window closes on Thursday night? He didn't rule it out last week.

While their pursuit of PSG midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye may come down to the wire unless they turn off their former player and go for another option? Here's some of the latest reports on Everton as they prepare for a few days of ins and outs at Goodison Park.

Gordon saga takes fresh twist

Chelsea have spent the summer chasing the 21-year-old Everton midfielder and were understood to be preparing a bid worth up to £60m for him but now their interest is cooling.

Everton boss Frank Lampard insists the Toffees won't let the sage run until the final day of the window because he wants to know if he will have the player in his squad. David Ornstein of the Athletic now reports any deal looks unlikely.

"The chances of Everton’s Anthony Gordon completing a move to Stamford Bridge are now thought to be slim too, with sources pointing to a substantial gulf in valuation between the negotiating clubs," he wrote. "Manchester United are believed to have made a late check on Gordon’s availability before stepping up their pursuit of Ajax winger Antony."

Traore links emerge

If Gordon was to leave, then Lampard would have some more cash in the transfer kitty. Two players linked to the Toffees recently were Wolves ace Adama Traore and Watford forward Joao Pedro.

"Everton have made approaches for Watford forward Joao Pedro and Wolves star Adama Traore," according to Football Insider. "The Merseysiders are working on signing a pacy forward capable of playing wide or down the middle as they prepare to lose Anthony Gordon."

Januzaj competition

Remember him? The former Manchester United man who looked set to take the world by storm and become a superstar. Well, he's a free agent now and is assessing his options. But he is keen to join Everton as he wants a return to the Premier League.

Do the Toffees even want someone who couldn't make it at United and has been let go by Real Sociedad? Who knows, it seems unlikely but if Gordon does suddenly leave then the Blues will be dashing around in desperation for a replacement so you never know.

These are going to be a crazy few days so there might be some random moves. Italian side Venezia appear to be the most likely destination for him, even if he is waiting by his phone for a call from Lampard.
