Jordan Pickford 6
Incredibly he hardly had a save to make but was left exposed by the defensive capitulation in front of him.
Nathan Patterson 4
Remained positive in adversity, showing for the ball but unfortunately it was his glaring error, misjudging the flight of Moises Caicedo’s cross, that enabled Kaoru Mitoma to open the scoring.
Vitalii Mykolenko 4
Solly March had the measure of him all night and he couldn’t keep up with the Brighton number seven for the third goal, surrendering far too much space.
AS IT HAPPENED: Everton thrashed 4-1 by Brighton in a dreadful night at Goodison
Conor Coady 5
Patterson’s mistake enabled Mitoma to go past him for the opener and he was unable to get close enough to Brighton’s frontmen for their second.
James Tarkowski 5
Gave his all but the way he was left on the deck for Brighton’s third goal, desperately trying to get a block in, summed up a defence that was all at sea.
Idrissa Gueye 3
Missed a tackle in the build-up to the second goal and then was guilty of an awful, misjudged backpass on the halfway line was intercepted by Pascal Gross for a fourth Brighton goal, to epitomise Everton’s shambolic collapse.
Tom Davies 5
A positive start for the home-grown midfielder drafted in due to Amadou Onana’s suspension but he quickly found himself bogged down in the mess around him.
Alex Iwobi 5
His early shot that forced Robert Sanchez into a save down to his left seemed an eternity ago by the time this sorry mess was over.
Dwight McNeil 4
Brought back in after the formation switch at Manchester City, he wasn’t quick enough in providing a supply line of crosses to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Demarai Gray 5
Had more time and space and far less pressure on his shoulders than at the Etihad to score with a chance on 70 minutes as Everton trailed 4-0 but instead his effort was way off target, leaving a stoppage time consolation from the penalty spot largely academic.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin 5
Tried to put himself about but was woefully let down by a lack of service that failed to make the most of his aerial threat.
Isaac Price (on 59 for Tom Davies) 6
The youngster will be glad of the first team minutes but difficult to come in during such awful circumstances.
Abdoulaye Doucoure (on 59 for Dwight McNeil) 5
The damage was already done by the time he arrived.
Seamus Coleman (on 63 for Nathan Patterson) 6
Provided some experience as Everton tried to hold back the tide.
Neal Maupay (on 63 for Idrissa Gueye) 5
On to play alongside Calvert-Lewin but they hardly look a potent partnership.
Ellis Simms (on 83 for Dominic Calvert-Lewin)
Recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland, he was given a late run-out.
