I think Frank Lampard has done the right thing in not forcing Dominic Calvert-Lewin back to play for Everton.
It’s been disappointing that we’ve not been able to see him this season but these muscle injuries can cause bigger issues in the future so hopefully we can get it right now and we’ll reap the benefits over the rest of the season.
I thought Neal Maupay was excellent against Southampton, he didn’t get his goal, but I thought he was an absolute nuisance for the opposition back four, which is great to see. When Calvert-Lewin does come back, I think there will be moments this season for them both to play up front, perhaps alongside each other.

Calvert-Lewin needs to concentrate on just getting his body right as we need him fit and firing for a prolonged period, not being in and out. Now we’ve got Maupay, we’re not missing a striker up there because he’s loving life and showing a fantastic work rate so when Calvert-Lewin does come back in it will be a huge bonus with his aerial threat.
If he can then get back to getting on the end of crosses from the likes of Anthony Gordon, Dwight McNeil and Demarai Gray, then it might make watching Everton a bit less nerve-racking.
It’s frustrating to have Calvert-Lewin still not in the squad but the person who will be most-frustrated by it all will be the player himself as he’s not been able to put that blue shirt on and show us all what he’s capable of.
It’s a time when new faces have come to the football club, the place is bouncing and morale seems to be fantastic. So it’s difficult to be on the outside of that, you want to be a part of it but Calvert-Lewin needs to remain patient, listen to the medical staff and do what he needs to do to get himself back fit without rushing it because we want to be able to count upon him as he’ll be a huge addition for Frank once he is fit again.
