According to the report, Farhad Moshiri is thought to admire the current Roma manager, despite his struggles at both Manchester United and Tottenham in recent years.
Mourinho saw his side thumped 3-0 at home by Inter Milan on Saturday, and the result left Roma 13 points adrift of the Serie A leaders AC Milan - and nine off the Champions League places already.
The report also claims that former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard could be interviewed for the role, and Lucian Favre and Niko Kovac are also named as possible contenders to replace Benitez.

According to the Telegraph, Martinez is 'unlikely' to make a return to Goodison Park after the Royal Belgium Football Association rejected a plan put forward.
Under the proposal, Martinez would have combined his roles as Belgium head coach and as Everton manager, but the report states the country's football governing body have rejected this idea.
The ECHO reported on Sunday that Martinez, who has already had a stint in charge of Everton, was under consideration for the role following Benitez’s dismissal.
