Everton hit by huge fine from FA for pitch invasions against Crystal Palace

Everton have been fined £300,000 by the FA after pitch encroachments during and following their crucial clash with Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

The Blues dramatically secured their Premier League survival against the Eagles by coming from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2 at Goodison Park. Goals in the second half from Michael Keane, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned Frank Lampard's side the three points that they needed in the campaign's penultimate match.

The win sparked huge scenes of jubilation, which included two separate occasions of fans encroaching on to the pitch. A small number entered the field of play in the immediate aftermath of the winning goal, scored by Calvert-Lewin, while thousands also ran on when the full-time whistle had sounded.

Now the FA have confirmed the punishment for Everton, which they still have the opportunity to appeal against, although they have admitted to failing to control their crowd.

A statement from the organisation read: "Everton FC has been fined £300,000 for two breaches of FA Rule E20 that occurred during the 84th minute of its Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace FC on Thursday 19 May 2022 and following the final whistle.

"Everton FC admitted failing to ensure that its spectators - and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers - conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from using threatening and violent behaviour whilst encroaching onto the pitch area.

"An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently imposed these sanctions, which remain subject to appeal, and the written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course."
