Everton goalscoring problem assessed as Nathan Patterson claim made

Here are your Everton morning headlines on Wednesday, March 22.

Everton have 'serious problems' with goalscoring but strikers may not be to blame

Everton failed to find the back of the net once more when they crashed out of the FA Cup to Crystal Palace at the weekend. The Blues conceded four at the other end of the pitch, but hardly threatened Patrick Vieira's side following a promising opening 15 minutes to the game.

Richarlison started up front at Selhurst Park but has only found the back of the net once in his last 11 matches, bagging in Frank Lampard's first game in charge against Brentford. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was introduced from the bench at the weekend, but he's still in search of his first goal since the end of August, where he scored a penalty away to Brighton.

The latest edition of our Royal Blue podcast was heavily focused on a number of issues the manager is facing at Goodison Park right now, including a lack of goals at the top end of the pitch. Host Adam Jones asked Gavin Buckland if he is at all concerned about Everton's strikers, but he made clear that the form of those up front is not necessarily to blame for the Blues' blunt attack.

Adam: "Gav, we can talk about a lack of service all we want, but it's another game without a goal scored for Everton. And to be quite honest, Richarlison never really looked like scoring, Calvert-Lewin - who came on at potentially a difficult time - didn't look like scoring either."

Steven Naismith explains what is different about Nathan Patterson at Everton

Steven Naismith has praised Everton defender Nathan Patterson's calmness and composure on the ball as he looks to make his impact for Scotland over the course of the international break.

The right-back has been called up for his national team by Steve Clarke as they prepare to face Poland on Thursday, before taking on either Austria or Wales on Tuesday. Steve Clarke's side were due to play against Ukraine in their 2022 World Cup play-off semi-final on Thursday, but that has been postponed due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Since making the move to the Blues in the winter transfer window, Patterson has been forced to be patient and wait for his opportunity. Earlier this month, Frank Lampard handed him his senior debut in the FA Cup clash with Boreham Wood, before he was withdrawn at half time.

However, former Everton striker Steven Naismith believes the defender has qualities that make him stand out. When speaking about fellow member of the squad Aaron Hickey, the now-Scotland coach explained why he thinks Patterson and Billy Gilmour are different.

Former Everton player and coach Terry Darracott dies aged 71

Everton have announced that former player and coach Terry Darracott has passed away at the age of 71.

Darracott joined the Blues as an apprentice in 1966 and made his debut aged 17 in a 2-0 win over Arsenal in April 1968. He went on to make 179 appearances for the club. After leaving Everton in 1979, Darracott enjoyed a short spell with Tulsa Roughnecks in the United States. He then returned to the UK to join Wrexham.

And after retiring from playing following his stint at Wrexham, the full-back moved into coaching, returning to Goodison Park to be part of the club’s management team. Darracott went on to be part of the backroom team that guided Everton through the halcyon days of the mid-80s. He worked under both Howard Kendall and Colin Harvey.
