Everton frustrated as Idrissa Gueye transfer from Paris Saint-Germain is held up

Everton manager Frank Lampard is frustrated that Idrissa Gueye still hasn’t rejoined the club with the midfielder running out of time to be potentially involved against another of his former sides Aston Villa on Saturday.

The ECHO understands that Everton have made Gueye what they consider to be a very attractive offer and Blues officials are becoming increasingly perplexed by the hold-ups that have prevented the deal from getting over the line after signing Conor Coady and Amadou Onana in recent days.

Although the Senegalese international has yet to officially declare that he wants to leave PSG, he has been training away from the main squad in recent days and instead has been placed alongside a group of players who the club want to sell including Layvin Kurzawa, Thilo Kehrer, Julian Draxler and Mauro Icardi and sources in the French capital claim that Lampard has called Gueye to try and convince him to make the move.

The Blues boss admitted during the club’s US tour that his team needed to find a ‘number six’ type player and Gueye, who turns 33 next month, was an effective performer in that role for Everton between 2016-19, joining for £7.1million from Aston Villa before making a lucrative £30million switch to petrodollar-fuelled PSG.
