Everton festive fixture change confirmed following controversial Women's Super League postponement

Everton Women will play three games in the space of a week, with their postponed clash away to Tottenham Hotspur now set to take place in December.

The Women's Super League fixture was initially scheduled for November 6, however it was called off just hours before kick-off owing to a waterlogged pitch at Brisbane Road. The game has been rearranged for for Wednesday December, 14, with the action billed to get underway at 7pm.

The fixture update means Everton's festive schedule is now even more congested, with the midweek trip to the capital sandwiched between an away clash with Brighton on December 11 and a Conti Cup tie with Durham at Walton Hall Park on December 17. The move comes at a time where a host of WSL managers, including Chelsea boss Emma Hayes, are calling for foootballing bodies to prioritise player welfare as an increasing amount of serious injuries continue to plague squads amid busy fixture lists.

Following decision to call off the Tottenham clash earlier this month, a number of Everton players took to social media to voice their frustrations at the nature of the postponement. Midfielder Izzy Christiansen was one of those who shared her disappointment, writing on Twitter: "'We want women’s football to be elite, visible, with fan bases growing by the week' etc etc…

"Postponing games so late doesn’t bode well for the above… Very disappointed about today… Apologies to our travelling fans, hope you get home safely!"

Fellow Everton star, defender Megan Finnigan, also voiced her opinion on the matter in a tweet that read, "Professional league", alongside a host of angry emojis. Her post was retweeted by a number of other Everton players, including midfielder Gabby George.

Many Everton fans were already en route to the game - a journey that takes an average of four hours if driving from Walton Hall Park. Full ticketing details for the rearranged fixture will be announced in the upcoming days, with tickets purchased for the original fixture still valid for the rescheduled date.
