Everton fans held another protest march against the club’s owner and board before their team’s Premier League clash against Leeds United. Just as they’d done before the previous home game with Arsenal a fortnight ago, disgruntled Blues supporters took to the streets to air their grievances at the way the club is run.
Starting outside the Royal Oak public house, the protesters made their way up Spellow Lane and along the length out Goodison Road in the shadow of the Main Stand.
Despite Farhad Moshiri having spent record-breaking amounts on squad recruitment since becoming the club’s majority shareholder in 2016 and turning Everton’s new stadium dream into a reality with their future home currently being built at Bramley-Moore Dock and scheduled to open in the 2024/25 season, the team endured the joint worst equivalent points total in the club’s history last term and went into this fixture in the drop zone as they fight to avoid what would be their first relegation in 72 years.

Moshiri has not attended a game at Goodison Park since the 5-2 capitulation against Watford on October 23, 2021, while board members, including chairman Bill Kenwright and chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, were not present at either of Everton’s two home matches against Southampton and Arsenal due to what the club described as a “real and credible threat to their safety and security.”
A joint statement released by a number of Everton fan groups, detailing this latest protest, included the lines: “We demand that the board and owner refrain from attending any further games.
“Such attendance would prove to be an unwanted distraction for both the fans and the team. It is our belief that you are not fit to lead our club, and your presence would only have a further negative impact.”
