The mother of a 23-year-old Everton season ticket holder who remains determined to keep watching his beloved Blues despite having a brain tumour the size of a grapefruit is attempting to raise funds for medical treatment to help her son. Lifelong Evertonian Oliver Cooper-Grace from Bootle was diagnosed with a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumour in June last year, two weeks before his 22nd birthday.
Unfortunately, Oliver’s tumour has progressed and his family are now seeking alternative treatments in Germany, not funded by the National Health Service. His mum, Sharon Cooper, launched a Just Giving Page online for Oliver last month and although the family have raised over £23,000 so far thanks to kind donations from the public, they currently haven’t reached the halfway point of their £50,000 target.
Oliver underwent a life-saving operation at The Walton Centre in June 2021 – and has been receiving treatment ever since. However, despite having undergone 33 rounds of radiotherapy at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and still having to undertake gruelling chemotherapy sessions, the season-ticket holder for the last 14 years, remarkably only missed two games last season, even though his condition was so severe, he was potentially days away from slipping into a coma.
