Everton defender Leonie Maier has announced her departure from the German national team as she steps away from the international stage.
The 30-year-old played for the country's youth teams before she made her senior debut in 2013 in a 3-3 draw against France. She earned 79 caps in total over the 10 years and scored 11 goals for Germany.
During her international career, she won the European Championships in 2013 and Olympic gold in Rio back in 2016. With the youth teams, she won the European Championships on two occasions.

Maier, who joined Everton from Arsenal in 2021, shared the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, saying: "A dream came true when I got my first cap for the national team. And for me, it has always been a privilege to play for Germany.
"After having played for my country for 10 years with all my heart, passion and pride, it is now time to say goodbye and make room for the next talented, younger generation. I am so proud and thankful for everything we have achieved together as a team.
"Especially winning the Euros in 2013 and winning the gold medal in Rio 2016. Thank you to everyone who supported and followed me during this unbelievable and unforgettable time. You know me as a fighter and that I believe in myself.
"So everyone who loves playing football like me: It is definitely worth it to fight for your dreams and believe in yourself! I wish my team all the best for the World Cup and keep my fingers crossed. I am sure you will have a bright future!"
Germany coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg added: "Leonie has achieved great success with the women's national team, of which she can be very proud. She is a great personality and absolutely deserves to be a national player.
"She has always contributed an incredible amount, not only in terms of football, but also as a person and was always a great enrichment for the entire team. We can only thank her for her many years of dedicated service in the national team jersey. We will say goodbye to her together in a dignified, yet to be determined setting."
