Everton deal Nottingham Forest transfer blow as medical 'already completed'

Nottingham Forest have reportedly missed out on signing Sporting left-back Rúben Vinagre to Everton.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers player is set to return to the Premier League on a season-long loan from the Portuguese giants. Forest were linked with a move for the 23-year-old over the weekend.

For the Reds, additions on the left-side of defence could still be necessary despite signing Harry Toffolo from Huddersfield Town as fellow summer signing Omar Richards has a hairline fracture in his leg and is set to be sidelined for several weeks. Álex Moreno is another left-back option that continues to be linked with a move from the Iberian Peninsula.

Vinagre is an option that seems set to be taken off of the market as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the "paperwork have been signed" and a "medical already completed" ahead of a loan that includes an option to buy. Romano adds that Vinagre is a "new Everton player" with the Merseyside club set to cover the player's full wages for the year.

That leaves Forest with a decision to make over their reported pursuit of Moreno. Romano reports that personal terms were "agreed weeks ago", but there is no such agreement between the Reds and Real Betis.

The journalist adds that Forest's first bid was 'turned down' and that they now will "decide internally whether to make a new proposal". The Spanish side are said to want more than €20million (£17m) for the full-back.
