The question over who will be Jordan Pickford’s Everton understudy next season remains with Harry Tyrer agreeing to join Chesterfield on a season-long loan from July 1.
Asmir Begovic – who spoke of “certain realities that I understand the club are in” when speaking exclusively to the ECHO last week – was Pickford’s main deputy last term but rejected a fresh contract at Goodison Park while there has yet to be confirmation on whether Andy Lonergan, third choice in 2022/23, will accept an offer for sign a new deal.
Tyrer, a 21-year-old boyhood Evertonian, who joined the Blues’ Academy aged seven, will continue his development with Paul Cook’s Spireites, who narrowly missed out on promotion from the National League last season after losing to Notts County on penalties in the play-off final. The Crosby-born player enjoyed an impressive 2022/23 campaign on loan at Chester FC, making 55 appearances for the National League North side, keeping 21 clean sheets and being named the club’s young player of the season.
Everton director of football, Kevin Thelwell, said: “This loan move is another important step in Harry’s development, playing in a competitive league under a well-respected manager in Paul Cook. Giving our young talented players vital experience, overseen by our loan pathways manager, James Vaughan, is an important part of our player development strategy and we have no doubt Harry will continue his progress at Chesterfield.”

England number one Pickford, who has been capped 54 times by the Three Lions following his transfer from Sunderland in 2017, signed a new four-and-a-half year contract on February 24 but has been linked with potential moves to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Joao Virginia, 23, could potentially be Everton's second choice next term having returned from a loan spell at Cambuur following their relegation from the Eredivisie.
