Everton confirm death of long-serving staff member Ian Lavery

Tributes have been pouring in for Everton’s Academy Recruitment Manager Ian Lavery after the club announced his death.

A club statement on evertonfc.com, read: “Everton Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the club’s Academy Recruitment Manager, Ian Lavery, following a short illness.

“Ian had worked for Everton for more than 20 years. He was a passionate Evertonian and had built great relationships with staff, colleagues, players and parents during his fine service in the Academy.

“The thoughts of everyone at Everton are with Ian’s wife, Lisa, and his three children at this difficult time.”

After Everton relayed the message from their academy’s Twitter account, @blackrodblue replied: “This is such sad news. I have ‘spoken’ with Ian many times on Twitter and he has always been such good company and so knowledgeable. My thoughts are with his family and friends and he will be such a great loss to Everton and to all who knew him. #RIPLavo.”

A message from @MarkyB1878 read: “Devastating news...when I was scouting for Everton in the Midlands Lavo always made us welcome at Finch Farm, a funny family man who absolutely loved the Blues....RIP.” @markdellis said: “Great lad, worked with lavo at emh many years ago also played footy with him, we love talking about the blues, RIP lavo.”

Everton player Lewis Warrington said: "One of the good guys. Rest in peace Lavo you will be greatly missed by everyone."

Graeme White, Premier League Stadium Announcer for Everton wrote: "Totally shocked with the news about Lavo. A colleague for 20 years, but more importantly a friend. I was only talking to him a couple of weeks ago after his recent family holiday. My thoughts are with Lisa and his children at this very difficult time. #RIPLavo"

Official club photographer Tony McArdle added: "Such sad news. Ian was there at the start of my time with Everton, and we did many assignments together over the years. Rest in Peace, mate, I will miss seeing you around the place, and will miss our impromptu conversations."
