Frank Lampard has backed Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek to succeed at Everton - despite the fact they were both ostracised by their previous clubs.
Lampard has only been in charge at Goodison Park for a few days after he was drafted in to replace Rafa Benitez.
That left the Chelsea icon with little time to bolster his new squad.
But Lampard managed to beat the deadline to wrap up deals for Alli and van de Beek.
With Alli out of favour at Tottenham and van de Beek completely sidelined at Manchester United, Lampard's decision to hand the duo a career lifeline has raised eyebrows.

But Lampard has hinted why he was eager to snap the pair up - even if they weren't fancied by their previous clubs.
"In terms of our business with Donny and Dele, they’re separate cases," explained Lampard in his first pre-match press conference.
"I just look at the player and the person and I had conversations with them both. They’re both very, very talented players.
"I’ve come up against them in the past and was very impressed with them. Sometimes it’s good to get players in who have a point to prove.
"They come in with hunger. I trust in their talent and I trust them as people.
"My job now is to create an environment to support them to let them show the talent they have. It’s natural talent they have and we have to harness it. It’s my job to put it all together."
While van de Beek has been signed on a temporary basis until the end of the season, Everton have handed Alli a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Alli arrives on Merseyside for free initially, but Everton could end up forking out a reported £40million if he can rediscover his top form and trigger a number of add-ons.
As he alluded to, Lampard is no stranger to Alli after the pair tangled on occasions in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old burst onto the scene in north London after his £5million switch from Milton Keynes Dons in 2015 but has lost his way over the past couple of seasons.

Alli has already admitted that he believes working with Lampard, the most prolific midfielder in Premier League history, can help him rediscover his form.
“Frank is an amazing manager and an amazing person," Alli told evertontv. "He knows me very well as a player, I know him and his tactics and how he likes his teams to work. I can learn so much from him.
"He scored a lot of goals from midfield, I will speak to him about that and the way he fought on the pitch and what he did to make the most of his talent."
