Everton and Liverpool have paid tribute to Brazil legend Pele who has died at the age of 82.
It was announced that the footballing icon had passed away on Thursday evening. Having suffered from a series of health issues in recent years, and most recently after being diagnosed with cancer in September 2021.
Pele spent much of his club career with Santos, where he scored 643 goals in 659 official games between 1956 and 1974. He also helped Brazil win three World Cups in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

During his international career, Pele scored 77 goals in 92 appearances for his country. He would later finish his career with three years at New York Cosmos in the United States, where he scored 66 goals in 107 games.
Liverpool have posted a message on Twitter as they pay tribute to Pele.
“A legend, icon and true great of the game who will forever be remembered,” the tweet read. “Rest in peace, Pele.”
Everton also posted a tweet in honour of the Brazil legend. Their tweet read: “A true great. Rest in peace, Pele.”
