Evero Joins Panthers After Broncos Released Him From Contract

New Panthers coach Frank Reich has his defensive coordinator.

Carolina “agreed to terms with” former Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero to the same position after Denver allowed him out of his contract, the team announced Sunday. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news.

Evero served as the Broncos’ defensive coordinator during the 2022 season, his first as a coordinator in the NFL. Under his tutelage, Denver’s defense finished seventh in the league in yards allowed even as the Broncos faltered on the other side of the ball.

Before joining Denver, Evero spent five years with the Rams organization as a safeties coach, defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach. The 41-year-old former UC Davis safety also has spent time in various roles with the Buccaneers (2007-09), 49ers (2011-15), and Packers (2016).

Evero replaces Phil Snow, who served as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator from 2020-22. In Snow’s three-year tenure, Carolina ranked 18th, 21st and 19th in scoring defense, respectively.
