The government has announced nationwide celebrations to mark the 4th cycle birthday anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen, under the programme "The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty the Queen's 4th Cycle Birthday Anniversary".
Organised by the Prime Minister's Office in coordination with state agencies, the celebrations will take place in Bangkok and across the country, with major events scheduled at Wat Ratchathiwat Wihan, Siam Paragon and Sanam Luang, alongside parallel ceremonies at provincial halls and Thai embassies and consulates abroad.
At Wat Ratchathiwat Wihan in Bangkok's Dusit district, activities from June 1-3 include Buddhist chanting ceremonies, exhibitions on royal history, academic seminars and cultural performances, including Khon, puppet theatre and Nora.
A candle-lighting ceremony is scheduled for 7.29pm on Monday.
Siam Paragon will host a commemorative exhibition from June 2-7.
The opening ceremony, which will be chaired by the prime minister, will be held on Tuesday at 5pm.
On June 3, Sanam Luang will host the main commemorative ceremonies, including alms-giving for 149 monks in the morning and a candle-lighting ceremony at 7.29pm.
Similar activities will be held nationwide.
The Prime Minister's Office has also produced 300,000 commemorative pins for the celebrations and encouraged the public to participate in merit-making and volunteer activities.
