Evangelos Marinakis wants 'big-name' manager after quick-fire Olympiacos sacking

Nottingham Forest chief Evangelos Marinakis is said to be targeting a big-name boss to replace Carlos Corberan at Olympiacos.

Marinakis, who also owns the Greek Super League champions, dismissed the former Huddersfield Town manager after just six weeks and 11 games in charge.

The Thrylos sit fifth in the league after winning just two of their opening five games and are already seven points behind rivals Panathinaikos.

They have also lost both their Europa League group games.

The swiftness with which Marinakis acted has added further fuel to fears Steve Cooper is at risk following Forest’s underwhelming start to the Premier League campaign.

However, for now, a replacement for Corberan is Marinakis’ main concern and former French national coach Laurent Blanc is among the frontrunners, according to ESPN journalist Andrés Morocco.

The 56-year-old Frenchman has managed Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux and was most recently in charge of Qatari Al Rayyan where he worked with Olympiacos striker James Rodríguez.

Rafael Benitez is another big name who has been linked with the role. The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea boss has been out of work since departing Everton in January.
